Renowned London-based fashion designer Mary Katrantzou is known for her love of color, pattern and complexity. These eclectic inspirations are palpable in the pieces she designs for Atelier Swarovski, from her 2011 series of Meissen porcelain-like enamel accents to her most recent kaleidoscopic jewelry collection, 'Nostalgia.' Dense with multifaceted pieces that juxtapose colors and textures, both collections features bright and textured crystals offset by smooth or curvaceous frameworks that make precious the brilliance of each stone.
"I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING REFINED, LIGHT AND DESIRABLE."
— MARY KATRANTZOU
Katrantzou was born in Athens to a family well versed in the textile business. She studied in New York and London, focusing from the very beginning on prints and patterns. Her MA collection at Central Saint Martins defined her signature style with enormous pieces of trompe l’oeil jewelry printed onto jersey dresses. Katrantzou has since taken inspiration from eighteenth century society painting, artisan glassware and perfume bottles to pursue her unique vision and exploration of what luxury is, and what it means to wear it.
