Erdem

After graduating in 2003 from the Royal College of Art in London, Erdem Moralioglu went on to win the ‘Fashion Fringe Award’ and the ‘British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award’ in 2007. For SS09 Erdem has designed a collection of fine silk scarves in line with his ready-to-wear collection. Printed in saturated colours and embroidered with crystals in soft pastel shades, he juxtaposes cream crystal pearls with graphic Briolette crystals in Light Sapphire and the harder shapes of the Polygon drop crystal in Light Azore.

I love working with Swarovski crystals. This season I found these stills from Peter Brooks 70’s production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM. There is a kind of surreal aspect about his version of the play that I love; it’s all about contrast. That is how we approached using Swarovski crystals. I really want this season to feel a little more softer and dreamy and also really luxurious. The Swarovski crystals added to this. Mixing all those crystal shapes and colours creates a brilliant effect, and also adds a beautiful weight to the garment. It actually changes the shape and silhouette of the garment; it’s like painting with the crystals.” (Erdem)
