Talented design duo Anthony Carmago & Nak Armstrong herald from Texas. Their successful partnership grew from their training in architecture and furniture design and their first collection debuted in 1999. Since then they have received universal recognition and won the CFDA Award for emerging talent in 2005. Their ATELIER SWAROVSKI collection is recognisably structural in nature, yet delicate in execution. Tear shaped montana, topaz and black diamond crystals are bound by twisted silver strands in rings and cuffs, and crystals are suspended in pendants and necklaces on fine silver chains.
“Our collections have always been inspired by architecture, in this case, by the dramatic and dark moodiness of Gothic buildings found all over Europe. We played with the ways in which the crystals could be set, flipped them upside down, and redefined the traditional jeweller's setting of stones by enveloping them in metal and chain. We wanted to shroud the stones, which ironically brings more attention to them, since it is the opposite of what is expected.
The scale of Gothic architecture inspired the scale of the pieces: bold, vertical, and dramatic, and the details such as the earring wires with the pointed and purposeful angles were drawn from the rooftops of Gothic cathedrals.”
