Marios Schwab

Spring/Summer 2008 | Autumn/Winter 2010

Over his three collections for Atelier Swarovski, fashion designer Marios Schwab has combined traditional jewelry ideas with modern, sculptural silhouettes. From the sinuous lines of the Pearl collection to the mosaic inspired Floating Stones collection, these designs reinvent classic jewelry codes.

"I like the idea of taking something staid and preppy and giving it a modern, twist."

— Marios Schwab

White and mystic black crystal pearls in Schwab’s first collection are arranged for visually striking, skeletal structures, whilst the Pearl collection displays crystal pearls in organic pieces that follow the curves of the human body. The Floating Stones collection of the same year took its fragmented texture from the Byzantine mosaics. Large, glittering tanzanite, and rose and black diamond crystals are joined by invisible bonds and appear to hang unsupported, as if by magic.

A Greco-Austrian who studied in Germany, Marios Schwab has a pan-European heritage that is reflected in his signature mix of traditional and modern influences. In 2006 he won the Best New Designer Award at the British Fashion Awards. In 2010 he was appointed creative director of Halston. Schwab’s ready-to-wear lines combine a progressive yet elevated aesthetic is clearly visible in his collections for Atelier Swarovski.
