Joseph Altuzarra

Spring/Summer 2011

Joseph Altuzarra’s collection for Atelier Swarovski is at once classic and contemporary, evoking his signature blend of progressive design and traditional craftsmanship. Transparent linear designs maximize the reflection of light from the crystals and highlight their innate brilliance. The crystals seem to almost float, adding a futuristic touch to the stackable bangles, rings and opulent necklaces in Altuzarra’s collection.

"The juxtaposition of a domestic material like resin with crystal felt very fresh."

— Joseph Altuzarra

The contrast of materials was Altuzarra’s starting point—glamorous Swarovski crystals showcased against simple resin. The clear structures allow the hexagonal crystals to shine unchallenged whether in the pale, opalescent silver shades or the more striking tones of Montana blue and jet.

Joseph Altuzarra has an eclectic history spanning cultures and continents. Born in Paris, he later studied in Philadelphia, focusing on fashion and architecture. Following graduation, he headed to the vibrant fashion scene in New York where he worked for Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler as well as completing a stint at Givenchy in Paris. In 2007 he set up his own label in New York, ALTUZARRA, which draws upon his dual heritage of classical French couture and American innovation and pragmatism.
